Make crispy French Toast Sticks quickly in the air fryer with a simple cinnamon sugar coating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices thick bread (like Texas toast or brioche)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for the batter)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Cut each slice of bread into three equal sticks.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon sugar for the batter.
  3. Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off. Do not soak them.
  4. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  5. Arrange the dipped bread sticks in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Lightly spray the tops of the sticks with cooking spray.
  7. Air fry at 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius) for 6 to 8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. While the sticks cook, mix the 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon together in a shallow dish.
  9. Immediately after removing the hot sticks from the air fryer, toss them gently in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  10. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can make the cinnamon sugar mixture ahead of time and store it in an airtight container.
  • For make-ahead preparation, dip the bread sticks in the batter, place them on a parchment-lined tray, and freeze until solid. Transfer to a freezer bag. Cook from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes to the cook time.
  • Use bread that is slightly stale for the best texture.
