Instructions

ol>

  • In a small bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt.
  • Add the yeast mixture to the wet ingredients and stir to combine.
  • Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • While the dough rises, prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and diced apple. Mix well.
  • Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a 12×18 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  • Spread the apple filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.
  • Roll up the dough tightly, starting from the long side. Pinch the seam to seal.
  • Cut the roll into 12 equal slices.
  • Place the slices in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • While the rolls bake, prepare the glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  • Drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls.
  • Notes

    • Ensure your milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
    • For a softer dough, you can add a little more milk, one tablespoon at a time.
    • If you prefer a stronger apple flavor, use a slightly tart apple variety like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith.
    • The glaze can be adjusted to your sweetness preference by adding more or less milk.
