Ingredients
Scale
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1 large egg
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted, plus 4 tablespoons for coating
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon for coating
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a standard 6-cavity donut pan.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 3/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, 1/4 cup melted butter, and vanilla extract.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix the batter.
Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan cavities, filling each about two-thirds full.
Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
While the donuts bake, prepare the coating. In a small bowl, combine the 1/2 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. In a separate small bowl, melt the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter.
Remove the donuts from the oven and let them cool in the pan for 5 minutes before carefully transferring them to a wire rack.
While the donuts are still warm, dip the top side of each donut first into the melted butter, then immediately into the cinnamon sugar mixture, pressing gently to coat.
Place the coated donuts back on the wire rack to cool completely before serving.
Notes
For the best texture, use room temperature milk and egg.
If you do not have a donut pan, you can pour the batter into a greased muffin tin and bake for 18-20 minutes, adjusting the coating method as needed.
For extra moisture, substitute buttermilk for regular milk.
