Ingredients
Scale
1/2 cup strong brewed coffee or 2 shots espresso
1/2 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
2 tablespoons banana puree (mashed ripe banana)
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional: Whipped cream for topping
Optional: Dash of cinnamon for garnish
Instructions
Prepare the banana syrup base: In a small saucepan, combine the banana puree, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is warm, about 2 minutes. Do not boil.
Brew your coffee or pull your espresso shots.
Heat the milk: In a separate small saucepan or using a milk frother, heat the milk until hot and slightly frothy.
Combine: Pour the warm banana spice mixture into your mug. Add the hot coffee or espresso. Stir well to combine.
Top the drink with the frothed milk.
Garnish with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon, if desired.
Notes
For an iced version, skip heating the milk and syrup. Mix the syrup base with cold milk and strong, cooled coffee, then pour over ice.
Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor in the puree.
For a richer flavor, substitute 1/4 cup of the milk with heavy cream.
