  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans, plus more for coating
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onion
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • Crackers, pretzels, or vegetable sticks for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup chopped pecans, green onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until they are fully incorporated and smooth.
  3. Shape the mixture into a ball shape on a sheet of plastic wrap or parchment paper.
  4. Chill the cheese ball in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to firm up.
  5. Place the remaining chopped pecans on a shallow plate.
  6. Remove the chilled cheese ball from the plastic wrap and roll it completely in the chopped pecans until fully coated.
  7. Return the cheese ball to the refrigerator until ready to serve.
  8. Serve cold with your choice of crackers or vegetables.

Notes

  • For a ranch cheese ball variation, add 1 packet of dry ranch seasoning mix to the mixture.
  • For a spicy jalapeno cheese ball, add 2 tablespoons of finely minced pickled jalapenos (drained) to the mixture.
  • You can make this appetizer ahead of time; wrap it tightly and keep it refrigerated for up to 3 days before coating with nuts.
