Make this refreshing homemade blueberry lemonade using a simple blueberry syrup for bright flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water (for syrup)
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)
  • 4 cups cold water (for mixing)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and fresh blueberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the blueberry syrup: Combine blueberries, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Cook for 5 minutes, crushing the berries slightly with a spoon.
  2. Strain the syrup: Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing gently on the solids to extract all the liquid. Discard the solids. Let the syrup cool completely.
  3. Combine lemonade base: In a large pitcher, mix the cooled blueberry syrup, fresh lemon juice, and 4 cups of cold water. Stir well.
  4. Chill: Refrigerate the lemonade for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
  5. Serve: Fill glasses with ice. Pour the lemonade over the ice. Garnish each glass with a lemon slice and a few fresh blueberries.

Notes

  • For a sparkling version, substitute 2 cups of the cold water with sparkling water or club soda when mixing.
  • If you prefer less sweet lemonade, reduce the sugar in the syrup to 3/4 cup.
  • This recipe scales easily for large batches; simply multiply all ingredient amounts.
