Learn how to make incredibly moist and buttery biscuits with this easy Butter Swim Biscuits recipe. The dough ‘swims’ in melted butter as it bakes, creating a tender crumb without any kneading.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Melt the butter in a 9×13 inch baking dish in the preheated oven.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  4. Pour the milk into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the dough directly into the hot melted butter in the baking dish. The dough should float or ‘swim’ in the butter.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is fully melted before adding the dough.
  • The dough will be very sticky; this is normal.
  • Do not overwork the dough to keep the biscuits tender.
