This Cherry Dump Cake recipe is simple, requires minimal mixing, and delivers a warm, bubbly dessert similar to a cobbler. It is a crowd-pleaser perfect for potlucks or weeknight treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional for variation)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Pour the entire can of cherry pie filling into the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly across the bottom.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the cherry filling layer. Do not mix the filling and the dry mix.
  4. If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts evenly over the cake mix layer.
  5. Slowly drizzle the melted butter over the entire surface of the dry cake mix. You want to cover as much of the dry mix as possible.
  6. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the cherry filling is bubbly around the edges.
  7. Remove the Easy Dump Cake from the oven and let it cool for at least 15 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute the yellow cake mix with a white or butter cake mix.
  • If you want a slightly different fruit flavor, substitute the cherry filling with pineapple or blueberry pie filling for a variation on this Minimal Ingredient Cake.
  • Serve this Warm Bubbly Dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
