You need a side dish that packs a punch? These Chili Garlic Green Beans deliver crisp-tender green beans coated in a bold, spicy garlic sauce. They are fast, flavorful, and perfect for making weeknight meals exciting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more for extra heat)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

  1. Blanch the green beans in boiling salted water for 3-4 minutes until bright green and crisp-tender. Immediately plunge them into an ice bath to stop the cooking. Drain well.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  4. Add the drained green beans to the skillet. Toss quickly to coat with the garlic and oil mixture.
  5. Stir in the soy sauce, sesame oil, and sugar. Cook for 1-2 minutes, tossing constantly, until the beans are heated through and lightly glazed.
  6. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Trimming the ends off the green beans first saves you time during cooking.
  • For best texture, do not overcook the green beans during the blanching step. You want them crisp.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on your preferred spice level.
