- 3 large overripe bananas, mashed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, mash the bananas well. Stir in the melted butter, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until combined.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing only until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips over the top.
- Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Use very ripe bananas (mostly black skin) for the best flavor and moisture.
- For a bakery-style top, reserve a few chocolate chips to press onto the batter surface before baking.
- If the top browns too quickly, loosely tent the loaf with aluminum foil for the last 15 minutes of baking.
