Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and pumpkin puree until just combined.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just incorporated. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.
  7. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle extra chocolate chips over the top.
  8. Bake for 28 to 32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  9. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

  • Use pure pumpkin puree for the best flavor and texture; avoid pumpkin pie filling.
