1 1/2 cups steel-cut oats
3 cups milk
1 cup water
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, combine the steel-cut oats, milk, water, maple syrup, melted butter, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir well to combine.
Fold in the diced apples and chopped nuts (if using).
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the oatmeal is set and the top is lightly golden.
Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can use half milk and half heavy cream.
