Create a cozy, shortcut dessert using store-bought cinnamon rolls baked over a warm, spiced apple filling. This recipe delivers gooey apples and sweet icing for a comforting treat perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (12.4 oz) refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing
  • 2 large apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, toss the apple slices with granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until the apples are evenly coated.
  3. Spread the spiced apples evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Pour the water over the apples.
  4. Open the can of cinnamon rolls. Place the rolls on top of the apple mixture, leaving a small space between each roll.
  5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
  6. Remove from the oven. Immediately spread the icing that came with the cinnamon rolls over the hot rolls.
  7. Let it cool slightly before serving. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Noah suggests using slightly tart apples for the best flavor contrast against the sweet rolls.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, increase the flour in the apple mixture to 1.5 tablespoons.
  • You can add a small pat of butter over the apples before placing the rolls on top for extra richness.
