Create a rich, creamy orzo dish that mimics the texture of risotto without the constant stirring. This recipe delivers big garlic and Parmesan flavor quickly, making it a perfect side dish or light main course.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Do not let it brown.
  3. Add the orzo to the pan and toast for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Pour in the broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the orzo is tender and most liquid is absorbed. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, and butter until smooth and creamy.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to your liking. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For an extra flavor boost, use low-sodium broth and adjust your salt additions at the end.
  • You can stir in fresh herbs like parsley or chives just before serving.
  • This dish thickens as it cools, so you may need to add a splash of extra broth or cream when reheating.
