- 1 pound pasta (linguine, fettuccine, or spaghetti)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound asparagus, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup reserved pasta water
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Optional: Red pepper flakes for a little heat
- Cook pasta according to package directions. Reserve about 1/2 cup of the pasta water before draining.
- While pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add asparagus and cook until tender-crisp, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- Pour in heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Stir in grated Parmesan cheese and reserved pasta water, a little at a time, until the sauce reaches your desired consistency.
- Add the cooked pasta to the skillet.
- Squeeze in the lemon juice.
- Toss everything together to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Add red pepper flakes if desired.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a lighter sauce, you can use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
- Add cooked chicken or shrimp for a more complete meal.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or basil for extra flavor.
