Create a fun, weeknight fusion dish by combining soft Italian gnocchi with bold, creamy taco seasoning flavors. This recipe is simple to follow and delivers a comforting, exciting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (16 ounce) package potato gnocchi
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken or turkey
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 packet (about 1 ounce) taco seasoning mix
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend
  • 1/2 cup water (for thinning, if needed)
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (optional, for extra heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sour cream or Greek yogurt (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Cook the gnocchi according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground meat and onion. Cook until the meat is browned and the onion is soft, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the taco seasoning and chili powder (if using). Cook for one minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth and heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
  5. Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the shredded cheese until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  6. Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet. Toss gently to coat everything evenly in the sauce.
  7. If the sauce seems too thick, add a splash of water until you reach your desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper as needed.
  8. Serve immediately topped with fresh cilantro and a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef for chicken or turkey.
  • For a vegetarian option, substitute the ground meat with 1 (15 ounce) can of black beans, rinsed and drained, added with the broth.
  • This dish reheats well; add a splash of milk or broth when reheating to restore creaminess.
