Enjoy the classic honey nut flavors of baklava in an easy, bite-sized dessert. These mini pastries are perfect for a quick treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a mini muffin tin.
  2. Unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom. Mix well.
  4. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough flat. Brush it generously with melted butter.
  5. Sprinkle about 1 tablespoon of the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo sheet.
  6. Top with another buttered phyllo sheet and repeat the nut mixture sprinkling. Continue layering phyllo and nut mixture until you have used about half of the phyllo dough and nut mixture.
  7. Cut the layered phyllo stack into small squares, about 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches.
  8. Gently press each square into the prepared mini muffin cups, allowing the edges to curl up slightly.
  9. Repeat the layering and cutting process with the remaining phyllo dough and nut mixture to fill the rest of the muffin tin.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and crispy.
  11. While the pastries are baking, prepare the syrup. In a small saucepan, combine the honey, water, and lemon juice. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 5 minutes.
  12. Once the pastries are out of the oven, immediately spoon the warm syrup over them, ensuring each bite gets coated.
  13. Let the baklava bites cool in the muffin tin for about 10 minutes before carefully removing them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Ensure your phyllo dough is fully thawed before starting.
  • Keep the phyllo dough covered with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out and becoming brittle.
  • You can substitute pecans for walnuts if preferred.
  • For a richer flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the nut mixture.
