A festive and delicious layered dessert perfect for Fourth of July celebrations, featuring fresh berries, creamy filling, and a patriotic presentation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 pound fresh blueberries
  • 1 (16 ounce) package angel food cake, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the sliced strawberries and 1/4 cup granulated sugar. Let sit for 10 minutes to macerate.
  2. In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add 1/4 cup granulated sugar and continue whipping until stiff peaks form.
  4. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until well combined.
  5. In a clear trifle bowl or individual glasses, layer the ingredients: start with a layer of angel food cake cubes, followed by a layer of the cream cheese mixture, then a layer of macerated strawberries, and finally a layer of blueberries.
  6. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of cream.
  7. Decorate the top with red, white, and blue sprinkles.
  8. Chill for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute pound cake or vanilla cake for angel food cake.
  • For a stronger cream cheese flavor, use more cream cheese and less whipped cream.
  • Ensure berries are well-drained before layering to prevent a watery trifle.
