Ingredients
Scale
1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
1 tablespoon granulated sugar or sweetener of choice
1 teaspoon water
2 teaspoons ceremonial grade matcha powder
2 ounces hot water (about 175°F)
1 cup oat milk or milk of choice
Ice cubes
Instructions
Prepare the strawberry puree: Combine strawberries, sugar, and 1 teaspoon of water in a small blender or food processor. Blend until smooth.
Strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve into a glass to remove seeds, pressing down on the solids. Set aside.
Prepare the matcha: Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl. Add the 2 ounces of hot water. Whisk vigorously in a ‘W’ or ‘M’ motion until the matcha is completely smooth and frothy, with no clumps.
Assemble the drink: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
Pour the oat milk over the ice.
Gently spoon the prepared strawberry puree over the milk layer.
Slowly pour the whisked matcha mixture over the back of a spoon onto the milk/strawberry layer to create distinct layers.
Serve immediately.
Notes
For a sweeter drink, increase the sugar in the strawberry puree.
Use oat milk for the creamiest texture that complements the matcha well.
Sifting the matcha prevents clumps before whisking.
If you prefer a less intense matcha flavor, use 1.5 teaspoons of powder instead of 2.
