Magic Cookie Bars, also known as 7-layer bars, are a classic, easy-to-make dessert. They feature layers of graham cracker crumbs, chocolate chips, coconut, nuts, and sweetened condensed milk, creating a rich, chewy, and delicious bar cookie that’s always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs (about 10 graham crackers)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (6 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup (6 ounces) butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs and melted butter. Mix until crumbs are evenly moistened.
  3. Press the crumb mixture firmly into the bottom of an ungreased 9×13 inch baking pan.
  4. Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the crumb layer.
  5. Next, sprinkle the butterscotch chips evenly over the chocolate chips.
  6. Scatter the shredded coconut over the chips.
  7. Sprinkle the chopped nuts over the coconut.
  8. Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the entire pan.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bars are golden brown and the condensed milk is bubbly.
  10. Let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For easier cutting, you can line the pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang.
  • You can substitute other types of chips like white chocolate or peanut butter chips.
  • Feel free to add other mix-ins like dried cranberries or M&Ms.
