Ingredients
Scale
2 pounds Russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
1 cup milk
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup sour cream
Instructions
Place the quartered potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Drain the potatoes thoroughly and return them to the pot.
Add the milk and butter to the pot. Mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy.
Stir in salt, pepper, and sour cream until well combined.
Let the mashed potatoes cool completely.
Transfer the cooled mashed potatoes to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
To reheat, place the mashed potatoes in an oven-safe dish. Cover and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until heated through. Stir occasionally.
Notes
For extra creamy mashed potatoes, use whole milk and full-fat butter.
You can add garlic powder or chives for extra flavor.
Ensure the mashed potatoes are completely cooled before refrigerating to prevent spoilage.
