Prepare juicy chicken breasts topped with Parmesan cheese and coated in a rich, homemade garlic sauce using a single skillet.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Pound chicken breasts to an even 1/2-inch thickness. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Dredge chicken lightly in flour, shaking off excess.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove chicken and set aside.
  4. Reduce heat to medium. Add butter to the skillet. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
  5. Pour in chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let the broth simmer and reduce slightly for 2 minutes.
  6. Stir in heavy cream and bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
  7. Stir in 1/4 cup of the grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce thickens slightly.
  8. Return the chicken to the skillet. Spoon some sauce over the chicken.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese over the top of the chicken breasts.
  10. Cover the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F).
  11. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a crispier topping, place the skillet under the broiler for the last 1-2 minutes, watching closely to prevent the cheese from burning.
  • If you prefer a tangier sauce, substitute 1/4 cup of the chicken broth with dry white wine.
  • Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for the best melting quality and flavor in the sauce.
