Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups fresh peaches, sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, gently toss the sliced peaches with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour the peach mixture into a greased 8×8 inch baking dish.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the chopped nuts, if using.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the crumb topping over the peaches in the baking dish.
  6. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peaches are bubbly.
  7. Let the crisp cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of ground ginger to the peach mixture.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • If your peaches are very ripe, you may need to reduce the granulated sugar slightly.
