Shipwreck Casserole is a comforting, budget-friendly layered bake perfect for a family dinner. This old-fashioned dish features hearty ingredients like ground beef, beans, and potatoes, creating a satisfying one-dish meal.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (10.75 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups diced potatoes (about 1 large potato)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the kidney beans, black beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Gently fold in the diced potatoes.
  5. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  6. Cover the dish tightly with foil.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  9. Bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and lightly browned.
  10. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
