Ingredients
Scale
1 gallon apple cider
1 cup dark rum
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Apple slices, for garnish
Cinnamon sticks, for garnish
Instructions
In a large pot, combine apple cider, maple syrup, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg.
Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it is hot but not boiling.
Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Just before serving, stir in the dark rum.
Ladle the hot toddy into mugs.
Garnish each mug with a slice of apple and a cinnamon stick.
Notes
For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum and add an extra splash of maple syrup or a cinnamon stick for extra flavor.
Adjust the spices to your preference. You can add more or less of any spice.
If you don’t have dark rum, spiced rum can also be used.
