Ingredients
Scale
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1-3 Thai chilies, thinly sliced (adjust to your spice preference)
1 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
Cooked jasmine rice, for serving
Fried egg, for serving (optional)
Instructions
Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add minced garlic and sliced chilies. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the ground beef to the wok. Break it up with a spoon and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Drain any excess fat from the wok.
Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and white pepper. Cook for another minute, stirring to coat the beef evenly.
Add the Thai basil leaves. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until the basil wilts.
Serve the spicy Thai basil beef immediately over cooked jasmine rice, topped with a fried egg if desired.
Notes
Thai basil has a distinct anise-like flavor, different from Italian basil. If you can’t find it, use regular basil, but the flavor will be slightly different.
Adjust the number of Thai chilies to control the spiciness. For a milder dish, remove the seeds from the chilies.
Ensure your wok or skillet is hot before adding ingredients for a proper stir-fry.
