Discover the simple stuffing hack that drastically improves your holiday stuffing, making it easier and tastier with minimal effort. This recipe fixes common mistakes for perfect holiday results.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 batch of your favorite stuffing base (cubes, bread, etc.)
  • 1 cup Chicken or Vegetable Broth (low sodium)
  • 1/2 cup Melted Butter
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dried Sage
  • 1/4 teaspoon Dried Thyme
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • The Hack: 1 cup of day-old, soft bread soaked in 1/2 cup of heavy cream (instead of using all broth)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine your stuffing base ingredients.
  3. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the broth, melted butter, egg, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  4. This is the hack: Take your day-old soft bread and gently press it into the 1/2 cup of heavy cream until mostly absorbed. This replaces some of the liquid in your main mix.
  5. Pour the liquid mixture over the stuffing base. Add the cream-soaked bread last.
  6. Gently mix everything until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Transfer the stuffing mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  8. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
  9. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • The cream-soaked bread adds richness and prevents the stuffing from becoming dry.
  • You can prepare the mixture the day before and refrigerate. Add 10 minutes to the baking time if cooking straight from the fridge.
  • For extra flavor, sauté 1/2 cup of chopped celery and onion in 2 tablespoons of butter before mixing into the base.
