Ingredients
Scale
1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 egg
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups beef broth
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix gently until just combined.
Roll the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs and brown them on all sides. Remove meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
Add flour to the skillet and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, to create a roux.
Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
Stir in heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Return the meatballs to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
Serve hot over noodles or mashed potatoes.
Notes
For best results, do not overmix the meatball mixture.
You can make the meatballs ahead of time and refrigerate them until ready to cook.
The sauce can be made slightly thicker or thinner by adjusting the amount of cream or broth.
