Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and allspice. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
  3. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the meatballs in batches, turning to brown all sides. Remove meatballs from skillet and set aside.
  4. Reduce heat to medium. Add flour to the skillet and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.
  5. Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
  6. Stir in heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Simmer for 5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  7. Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer in the sauce for 10-15 minutes, or until cooked through.
  8. Serve hot over noodles or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • For best results, do not overmix the meatball mixture.
  • You can bake the meatballs at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes instead of pan-frying if preferred.
  • Adjust the spices to your preference.
