Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 bag (32 ounces) frozen tater tots
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Brown the ground beef and chopped onion in a skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
In a large bowl, mix the cooked beef and onion mixture with the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and pepper.
Spread this meat mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the meat mixture.
Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the tater tots are golden brown and cooked through.
Notes
For a cheeseburger variation, add 1/2 cup of ketchup and 1 teaspoon of mustard to the meat mixture before spreading it in the dish.
You can prepare the entire casserole the night before, cover it, and refrigerate. Add 10 to 15 minutes to the baking time if cooking directly from the refrigerator.
Use cream of chicken soup instead of mushroom soup for a different flavor profile.
