This is a quick recipe for a classic, creamy pea salad featuring bacon and cheddar cheese, perfect for potlucks or picnics.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans sweet peas, drained
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cooked, crumbled bacon
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped red onion
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the drained peas, shredded cheddar cheese, and crumbled bacon.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, red onion, white vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  3. Pour the dressing mixture over the pea and bacon mixture.
  4. Gently fold all ingredients together until the peas are evenly coated.
  5. Cover the bowl and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow flavors to blend.

Notes

  • You can prepare this salad up to 24 hours in advance; the flavor improves overnight.
  • For extra crunch, add 1/4 cup of finely chopped celery when mixing the ingredients.
  • Drain the canned peas very well to prevent the salad from becoming watery.
